
Strength Through Adversity
You are already more mentally tough than you give yourself credit for. We all have had times in our life where we go through adversity, difficulty, hardship, and challenge.
It is very important you remember the difficult times that you have already gone through when facing a new difficulty. If you got through something hard, you can do it again.
Think about difficult times, challenges, adversities, and hardships you've already conquered in your life. These are proof of your mental toughness.

• Difficult wrestling seasons or tough losses you bounced back from
• Injuries or physical setbacks you recovered from
• Personal or family challenges you've faced
• Academic struggles you overcame
• Times you pushed through extreme fatigue or pain
• Situations where you had to show courage
A very intense, borderline crazy challenge/workout/competition/event can give you a psychological edge over fatigue.
Examples: A marathon, 1,000 pushups in an hour, 24 hour workout, intensive camp, etc.
Important: When you do this challenge, you must think about your fear of fatigue and see yourself destroying this fear. This creates a powerful mental reference point you can draw on during tough matches.

• Complete 1,000 burpees in one session
• Do a 24-hour wrestling clinic/camp
• Swim 2 miles without stopping
• Complete a Murph workout (CrossFit challenge)

When you face adversity on the mat, you can draw on your past experiences of overcoming hardship. You've already proven you can push through difficult times. When you complete your extreme challenge, you'll have an even more powerful mental reference point. That third period fatigue? You've been through worse. That tough opponent? You've faced bigger challenges. Use your history of toughness to fuel your confidence!
