Passion Fuels Excellence
When people are happy/in a good mood, they adapt easier, are more creative, and have better flexible thinking. In a sport that demands regular adjustments, a positive upbeat mood will help you make mid-match adjustments a lot easier.
Also, people often focus too much on winning titles and accomplishments. When times get tough, and they often will, focusing on what you love about wrestling will help sustain you.
List all the things you enjoy/love/like about wrestling. Think of why you got into the sport in the first place. Don't include winning because you can win at any sport. List things specific to wrestling that you like. Make this as specific and detailed as possible.
[ What do you love about wrestling practice? ]
Examples:
• The intensity of live wrestling
• Learning new techniques
• Pushing my body to the limit
• The brotherhood/sisterhood
• Getting better every day
[ What do you love about competing? ]
Examples:
• The one-on-one battle
• Testing myself against tough opponents
• The adrenaline rush
• Executing moves I've practiced
• The respect between competitors
[ What do you love about tournaments? ]
Examples:
• The atmosphere and energy
• Competing against the best
• Overcoming adversity
• The journey with teammates
• Proving myself under pressure
When you remember why you love wrestling, the tough practices become easier, the hard weight cuts become bearable, and the brutal matches become opportunities. Titles and trophies fade, but your love for the sport sustains you through everything. On days when motivation is low, come back to this list and reconnect with your passion. This is WHY you wrestle!
