MANAGING PRE-MATCH NERVES

Channel Your Energy Like a Predator

Listen to Lesson 3

Nerves before a match are normal. Even elite wrestlers feel them. The difference is that predators use nerves as fuel while prey let nerves paralyze them.

Understanding Nerves

Your body releases adrenaline before competition. This creates physical sensations:

  • • Increased heart rate
  • • Butterflies in stomach
  • • Rapid breathing
  • • Sweaty palms

This is your body preparing to perform. It's GOOD, not bad.

5 Ways to Channel Nerves

1. Reframe the Feeling

Instead of "I'm scared," say "I'm ready." Same physical feeling, different interpretation.

2. Use Deep Breathing

4 seconds in, 4 seconds hold, 4 seconds out. Repeat 5 times. Calms nervous system.

3. Focus on Your Pre-Match Routine

Follow your routine exactly. This keeps your mind occupied with actions, not worries.

4. Remember Your Preparation

Think about all the hard work you've put in. You've earned the right to be here.

5. Take Action

Movement kills anxiety. Get warm, get moving, get aggressive in your warm-up.

The Predator's Mindset

"These nerves mean I'm alive. They mean I care. I will use this energy to attack."

🎯 KEY TAKEAWAY

Nerves are normal and useful. Don't try to eliminate them — channel them. The adrenaline that makes you nervous is the same energy that makes you powerful.
