Keep Your Attention On What Matters
Listen to Lesson 6
Focus is your ability to keep your attention on what matters and ignore what doesn't. In a 6-minute match, a single lapse in focus can cost you the win.
During a match, distractions are everywhere:
Every second your mind wanders, you're vulnerable.
Champions maintain focus on THREE things only:
Not what happened last period. Not what might happen next. Only THIS moment, THIS position, THIS action.
Hand position, hip placement, pressure points. The technical details of what you're doing RIGHT NOW.
When you focus on breathing, you stay calm and centered. It anchors you in the present.
→ Practice Single-Point Concentration: During drilling, focus only on perfect technique. Nothing else.
→ Use Cue Words: Pick one word ("attack," "pressure," "breathe") and repeat it mentally to stay focused.
→ Recognize Distractions Early: When your mind wanders, catch it immediately and refocus.
→ Train in Chaotic Environments: Practice with loud music, distractions, pressure. Learn to focus despite chaos.
Pick ONE word you'll use to refocus when your mind wanders during a match:
Examples: "Now", "Breathe", "Attack", "Pressure"
[ My focus cue word: _________ ]
Focus is a trainable skill. The more you practice bringing your attention back to the present moment, the better you get at it. Champions don't have fewer distractions — they just refocus faster.
